Day 1- Depart U.S. / Arrive San José, Costa Rica
Upon arrival in Juan Santamaria International Airport, you will be met by your guide outside the customs and immigration area at the airport. Your guide will transfer you to the hotel in the Central Valley.
• Overnight: Grano de Oro (Superior Room)
Hotel Grano de Oro, is located in San José. Converted from a Tropical Victorian mansion, the 40 room hotel maintains the warmth and comfort of a private home. Grano de Oro has been supporting the “House of Lights” for years, a shelter for teen mothers that have been abused, abandoned and find themselves at social stake.
Day 2- Poas Volcano National Park / San Ramón
After a hearty breakfast, your private guide/driver will transfer you towards Alajuela Province. There you will drive and visit Poas Volcano National Park. The park is located northeast of the city of Alajuela. At 2,708 meters above sea level, it is one of the most spectacular volcanoes in Costa Rica. The last major eruptions were from 1952 to 1954. The 2,708 stratovolcano lies within two vast calderas. The southernmost of two summit crater lagoons, Botos, is cold and clear, and last erupted about 7,500 years ago. Afterwards, continue driving towards the San Ramón area, stopping en route for lunch.
• Overnight: Villa Blanca Cloud Forest Reserve & Spa (Deluxe Room)
• Meal: Breakfast and Dinner
Villa Blanca Cloud Forest Reserve & Spa is located just one hour from San José International Airport. Day 4- La Fortuna
Today drive to the area of the Arenal Volcano National Park. This central location is the perfect gateway to discover Costa Rica and all its natural wonders.
• Overnight: Arenal Nayara Hotel & Gardens (Deluxe Suite)
• Meal: Breakfast
At Arenal Nayara Hotel & Gardens, you will find a unique blend between the hospitality of our local culture and the warm tropical climate. Each of its large suite-size casitas provides independent space and privacy that includes a private backyard and a front balcony overlooking the volcano. The hotel has been supporting local schools and indigenous groups for several years.
Day 5- La Fortuna
Today enjoy a rush of adrenaline at the Sky Tram & Trek. On this tree top walk, you cross a series of suspension bridges, walking above the tree canopy and looking down on the enormous ferns and majestic trees that comprise the dense vegetation of this primary rainforest. A network of suspended bridges, platforms, and paths permit observation of flora and fauna from ground level all the way to the tree tops. Afterwards, enjoy a free afternoon on your own to explore the local surroundings.
• Overnight: Arenal Nayara Hotel & Gardens (Deluxe Suite)
• Meal: Breakfast
Please notice that we do NOT recommend visiting Arenal National Park for safety reasons, since The National Vulcanology Department issued a red-danger warning around the Arenal Volcano, and the National Park visitors center is located within the 5Km ring, in the “red danger” zone. For a nice & relaxing visit to the famous Arenal hot springs, we highly recommend visiting Eco Termales La Fortuna. We have carefully chosen the hotels and activities we offer and share with our friends, family and clients in this area. If there should be any eruptions (as it has been in the past), and you are in any of the “red danger” zones, you would have less than 3 minutes to evacuate. Please steer clear of the park; your safety is our main priority and you can see the volcano without needing to stand on top of it!
Day 6- La Fortuna / Playa Tamarindo
Following a relaxing breakfast, you will be transferred to Rincon Corobici Restaurant. Depending on your experience and the amount of adrenaline you are looking for choose from a slower River Floating, class I-II, or a more challenging full day River Rafting at Tenorio River, class III-IV. Lunch will be included at Rincon Corobici Restaurant before driving towards your final destination: Tamarindo
• Overnight: Hotel Capitán Suizo (Bungalow)
• Meals: Breakfast and Lunch
Days 7-8 - Playa Tamarindo
Visit Potrero, a local school while volunteering inside their classroom. Here you will have the opportunity to teach English lessons in a traditional Costa Rican classroom. This is hands on while interacting with local teachers and children. Free afternoon to enjoy the surroundings or any additional activity such as fishing, kayaking, snorkeling, surfing lessons and much more!
• Overnight: Hotel Capitán Suizo (Bungalow)
• Meals: Breakfast and Lunch
Capitán Suizo’s philosophy provides importance on supporting local communities and the local nature and wildlife. More than 95 percent of the sixty employees are Costa Rican and most of them are from the region of Guanacaste. The hotel does not use any pesticides in the garden and thanks to the protected old trees the hotel is often visited by wildlife such as howler monkeys, squirrels, and a wide variety of birds, racoons, garrobos, iguanas and armadillos.
