DETAILED ITINERARY

Day 1- Depart U.S. / Arrive San José, Costa Rica
Upon arrival in Juan Santamaria International Airport, you will be met by your guide outside the customs and immigration area at the airport. Your guide will transfer you to the hotel where you will enjoy a welcome dinner and trip orientation.

Days 2-3- San José/ Sarapiqui
After breakfast, you will be transferred to Inbioparque which is an amazing theme park that offers an interactive experience with nature. The following day will be a full of adrenaline!  You will get wet while white-water rafting on the Sarapiqui River (class II-III).  This is the perfect activity for anyone with a sense of adventure and fun. This section is ideal for first time rafters. You will be able to view the scenic presence and singular beauty of the unexplored humid tropical forest while floating down the river with a delicious picnic lunch besides the river. During the afternoon enjoy an arts and crafts class. This is a creative class where you will learn from a local artisan how to make jewelry with rainforest seeds, woodworking, rainforest painting, and palm frond weaving. Only natural resources are used during the class and you will be able to take your creations back home. By taking these classes you are supporting the local artisans.

La Quinta de Sarapiqui is a family owned and operated business. In just ten years the Inn has been transformed from a working farm to a garden of secluded cabins, lodging and a galleria connected with paved trails and covered walkways, and ponds and gardens of remarkable beauty. The staff is full time, year round employees, many of whom have made the inn their career. They have been a certified by member of the Certification in Sustainable Tourism system and great ongoing projects with the local school & community.

 

Day 4- La Fortuna
Following a relaxing breakfast, drive to the area of the Arenal Volcano. Once in La Fortuna you will experience a horseback riding trip to a zipline canopy tour and then learn about the Maleku Indigenous culture. Enjoy lunch at the small town of La Fortuna and then visit the Eco Termales Hot Springs which is owned and operated by the Hidalgo Family on a private property with springs heated by the volcano. This authentic retreat provides the opportunity to relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Then continue driving to your hotel on the shores of Arenal Lake.

Day 5- La Fortuna
Time for a morning yoga class, experience a guided tour of Rancho Margot and participate in all the ranch activities (dairy & milk processing, poultry, pigs, fishing pond, Organic vegetable garden, medicinal garden, energy production, stables) and  projects (Reforestation, Ranger Station, Animal Rescue & Reintegration Center). This participation can take on many forms. You may want to actively plant a tree, adopt an animal or go with the forest rangers on patrol.

Rancho Margot is a family environment were you will find adventure, accommodations, education, conservationism and an organic working ranch design to inspire and share knowledge with its visitors. The family who owns and runs Rancho Margot decided to develop it as a sustainable tourist destination whose focus would be to protect and reforest the area. One of their objectives is to help educate the local community.

 

Days 6-8 Playa Ocotal
You will cross the Arenal Lake by boat, and then drive towards the Guanacaste Province. Your property for the next couple of days lies along the country’s beautiful Northern Pacific coastline and yields breathtaking panoramic views of the Papagayo Gulf.  During your days in Playa Ocotal, you will have a day of activities supporting a local community, as well as a half-day boat snorkeling trip, where you will go beach jumping from black to white sand beaches. There is some free time for you to opt for an additional activity such as Palo Verde National Park, fishing, diving, shopping in Playas del Coco, etc.

Ocotal Beach Resort and Hotel is strategically located in the northern pacific coast, by the Papagayo Peninsula. While at Ocotal Beach Resort and Hotel you can take part of one of their sustainability practices, schedule a beach-clean up with the local school, or visit one of the nearby communities and support their projects.

 

Day 9- Liberia / Depart
Early morning transfer to the Daniel Oduber International Airport in Liberia for your international flight.
